[BOISE, IDAHO] – (March 4, 2025) – Erin Stutzman, a veteran educator in the Boise School District, has been named a 2025 Best of Green Schools Award recipient for the K - 12 category, presented by the Center for Green Schools at the U.S. Green Building Council and Green Schools National Network. The awards celebrate the hard work being done by people, schools, campuses and organizations to push the green school movement forward.
As an educator in the Boise School District, Stutzman empowers students through community outreach and project- and place-based learning, helping them use their voices to create meaningful change at local, state and national levels. In collaboration with Nez Perce youth and tribal elders in Lapwai, Idaho, her students have had the opportunity to learn from Indigenous customs and build partnerships around shared environmental goals. Together, they have secured rooftop solar panels through grant writing, advocated for climate action in schools and supported the nationally recognized Save Our T-Pack initiative to protect Idaho’s wolves.
“Erin is an excellent example of how classroom education benefits the overall sustainability goals of our school district,” said Lisa Roberts, Boise School District Superintendent. “Not only are our students learning science, but they are learning how a solid education combined with effective collaboration can lead to real-world change.”
“The 2025 Best of Green Schools honorees represent the extraordinary work that many schools, districts, educators and volunteers do to make learning environments better for people and the planet,” said Anisa Heming, director at the Center for Green Schools. “This year’s exceptional honorees have focused their efforts on building more resilient schools and helping prepare the next generation of leaders to continue this important work.”
“The 2025 Best of Green Schools honorees are proof that sustainability in education is not just a goal, it’s a movement,” said Ileana Albareda, executive director at the Green Schools National Network (GSNN). “Their work is transforming schools into healthier, more resilient places for students to learn and thrive. They are part of a growing network of changemakers, and their leadership is inspiring others to take action, push boundaries, and create lasting impact."
The Center for Green Schools and Green Schools National Network received hundreds of nominations of individuals and organizations that have made an impact in advancing green schools in 2024. The 2025 recipients of the Best of Green Schools Award were announced during the 2025 Green Schools Conference in Orlando, Fla.
