Age: 51

Occupation: Retired Boise City Fire Chief Education: Associate’s Degree in Fire Science from Boise State University and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Business Administration degree from Northwest Nazarene University. He is also a graduate of the U.S. Fire Administration's National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer Program (EFO).
Dennis Doan was selected by the Board of Trustees to fill a vacancy on the Board on October 8, 2018.  In addition to serving on the Boise School Board, Trustee Doan worked for the Boise Fire Department from 1991 until his retirement in 2020. He served as the Boise City Fire Chief from 2008 to 2020.

As a school board trustee Dennis is passionate about Boise School District’s Community School program and providing career technical training to students through the Dennis Technical Education Center (DTEC).

Community Schools provide parenting support, helping families get food and clothing, connect with early childhood resources, secure computer access, get agency referrals, and develop resume writing and other job-seeking skills.

“Community schools provide the wrap-around services students and families need,” Trustee Doan said. “If we want our students to show up ready to learn, they need to feel secure at home. Whatever we can do to help our families succeed, we should do.”

The Dennis Technical Education Center (DTEC) gives students a competitive advantage and an opportunity to get training for a career while still in high school. The Center provides students the chance to develop industry-standard skills (and even earn credentials), an opportunity to use cutting-edge technology, and an introduction to professional networks in their chosen field.

“The DTEC opens pathways for students to pursue rewarding careers, whether they choose to go to college or enter the workforce after high school,” said Trustee Doan. “As soon as they graduate, students can enter the workforce and make important contributions in their industry.”

Doan was awarded Boise City Firefighter of the Year in 2003 for his work as a lobbyist for Idaho firefighters and received the American Red Cross 2004 Real Hero Award, as well as the Boise Young Professionals Sage award in 2018. Trustee Doan was past President of the Professional Fire Fighters of Idaho (PFFI) from 1999 to 2004 and lobbyist from 1997. In early 2000, he founded the Idaho Fallen Firefighter Foundation, which opened the Idaho Fallen Firefighter Memorial in 2008.

Doan serves on the Board at his church, Eastwind Community Church and volunteers as a ranger for Ridge to Rivers foothills trail system.

“I would be honored to serve another term as a Trustee of the Boise School District. I hope to continue serving our community, students, teachers, and administrators”
