Washington Elementary - Update

The present Washington School was built in 1911-12. With undersized classrooms, multiple portable classrooms and a small, combined gymnasium and cafeteria Washington ranked as the third worst elementary school for Educational Adequacy in the 2016 Facilities Audit.

A completely remodeled school will help meet modern education standards and improve student safety while preserving an iconic neighborhood school.

September 8, 2021 Update: The new addition and renovation to Washington Elementary School is complete. Lombard Conrad Architects and Beniton Construction were selected for this project. The 14,020 square foot addition ties into the existing historic elementary school building with a five-stop bi-directional elevator allowing ADA access to all floors of the building.  The existing 192 and 1946 portions of the building were renovated, including new mechanical and electrical systems, while maintaining the historic architecture of the building.
