Whitney and Whittier Elementary will have an informational parent meeting during the month of February. This meeting will give an overview of the program as well as give parents the opportunity to ask questions. Please contact Whitney and Whittier for specific meeting dates.

Parents or guardians who are interested in enrolling their child in the dual language program must fill out a dual language application. In order to allow students to be peer models and learn from one another, we strive to create each new Kindergarten class with 50% native English speakers and 50% native Spanish speakers,

• Students living in Whitney/Whittier boundaries will be registered first. If there are open seats after April 1st, open enrollment applications will be approved in the order in which they are received. In order to sustain the program a balance of languages is necessary. Half of the seats will be filled with native Spanish speaking or bilingual students (primary home language is Spanish) and the other half will be filled with Native English speaking students.

• Students who have applied but aren’t offered a seat will be placed on a waitlist. After July 31st if there are openings in either language group those seats will be filled from the waiting list in the order they were received regardless of primary language. Updated as of 2/14/24 in accordance with Idaho Code 33-1402.

Students who enroll in 7th-12th grade and are bilingual or a native Spanish speaker, have the opportunity to take Dual Language courses at South or North Junior High and any high school.

Los padres o tutores que estén interesados en inscribir a sus hijos en el programa dual deben completar una solicitud de lenguaje dual. • Los estudiantes que viven en los límites de Whitney/Whittier serán registrados primero. Si hay plazas abiertas después del 1 de abril, las solicitudes de inscripción abierta se aprobarán en el orden en que se reciban. Para sostener el programa es necesario un equilibrio de idiomas. La mitad de los asientos se llenarán con estudiantes bilingües o de habla hispana nativa (el idioma principal del hogar es el español) y la otra mitad se llenará con estudiantes de habla inglesa nativa.

• Los estudiantes que hayan presentado su solicitud pero no se les ofrezca un asiento se colocarán en una lista de espera. Después del 31 de julio, si hay vacantes en cualquiera de los grupos de idiomas, esos asientos se llenarán de la lista de espera en el orden en que fueron recibidos, independientemente del idioma principal. Actualizado el 14/02/24 de acuerdo con el Código de Idaho 33-1402.

Los estudiantes que se inscriben en los grados 7.º a 12.º y son bilingües o hablantes nativos de español, tienen la oportunidad de tomar cursos de lenguaje dual en South o North Junior High y en todas las secundarias.
