Boise School District Volunteer Program

Empowering Community Engagement to Support Every Learner, Every Day

Volunteers Make a Difference

At Boise School District, we believe that strong community partnerships are essential to student success. Our volunteers play a vital role in creating safe, supportive learning environments that foster academic achievement and personal growth. Whether in the classroom, on the field, or during special events, volunteers extend the reach of our staff and bring meaningful connections to our students.

Aligned with our Strategic Plan, this Volunteer Program ensures that every volunteer is welcomed, informed, and prepared to serve in a manner that upholds student safety and reinforces our shared commitment to excellence.

Volunteer Process: How You Can Support Student Success

  1. Express Your Interest

    • Volunteers may be invited by school staff for specific roles, or community members can initiate contact with a school to offer their support.

    • Every volunteer opportunity, no matter how big or small, contributes to our students’ growth and well-being.

  2. Prepare to Volunteer – Forms & Training
To ensure consistency and student safety, all volunteers are required to review our guidelines and complete onboarding forms:

  3. Submit Forms for Approval
Submit completed forms to your school’s principal or program administrator. This collaborative review ensures each volunteer aligns with our commitment to safe and supportive schools.

  4. On-Campus Check-In Procedures
    Every time you volunteer, you’ll:

    • Sign in at the school office.

    • Present a valid ID.

    • Wear a temporary volunteer badge.

    • Be background checked through the District's integrated school safety software.

These steps safeguard the well-being of our students and reinforce a culture of safety and trust.

Volunteers with Unsupervised Student Contact

Certain roles, such as overnight field trips, athletics, or extracurricular activities, require a full criminal background check to protect student safety.

Process:

  1. Schedule a fingerprinting appointment through:

  2. Bring the following to your appointment:

    • Valid driver’s license or ID.

The District covers the fingerprinting costs as part of our investment in safe learning environments.

Final Volunteer Clearance

  • Volunteers requiring background checks may not begin service until officially cleared.

  • Building Principals will provide final notification of approval.

  • Athletic and extracurricular volunteers must also be approved by the Director of Student Activities and Athletics.
