This is the image for the news article titled Apple Teams With Educators To Boost Coding EffortsElementary, junior high and high school teachers from across Boise School District recently participated in a demanding 1-week Teacher Coding Academy designed to provide educators with the skills needed to bring coding experiences to K-12 students. The event kicked off what partners hope will be a year-long effort.

The program, called OnRamp, is a joint effort between Apple, Boise State University, College of Western Idaho, Idaho Digital Learning Academy, and a number of Treasure Valley school districts, including Boise. During the one week, high-intensity academy, educators were paired with experienced Apple software engineers and tasked with creating computer apps to address community issues such as homelessness, child mental health and predatory lending practices. The requests for an app-based solution were developed by the Boise Police Department, The Childrens’ Home, and Jaanus.

At the end of the week, the teams presented their apps to representatives from the partner organizations, community members and fellow educators.
