Boise, ID -- 11/07/2024 -- For the 22nd consecutive year, Boise School District has received the Meritorious Budget Award as presented by the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO).
By regularly receiving the ASBO Meritorious Budget Award, as announced by the Association of School Business Officials International, Boise School District continues to earn notable recognition for:
- Skills in developing an effective budget presentation.
- Compliance with clear budget presentation guidelines.
- Commitment to the community through a reader-friendly budget document.
- Adherence to nationally recognized budget presentation standards.
Boise School Board President Dave Wagers praised the district's administration for again receiving this prestigious international budget award.
“The Meritorious Budget Award from the Association of School Business Officials International sets a high standard for school budget processes, and we’re honored to receive it once again,” said Boise School Board President Dave Wagers. “This recognition affirms our district’s commitment to producing an annual budget that is not only accurate and detailed but also aligns with our goals and values. It underscores our dedication to building trust within our community by upholding transparency and excellence in how we manage public resources.”
Boise School District Superintendent Lisa Roberts commended the district’s dedication to transparency and fiscal responsibility in receiving this award. "We are incredibly proud to be recognized once again with the Meritorious Budget Award," said Roberts. "This award highlights our unwavering commitment to transparency and excellence in managing our district’s public resources. It’s a testament to the hard work of our Accounting Department and staff across the district who ensure we are responsible stewards of taxpayer funds, all in support of our mission to serve students and families."
Boise School District has earned the Meritorious Budget Award every school year since 2003. The award recognizes the work of the District's administration, especially the District's Accounting Department and its team of professionals, who are committed each and every day to sound school financial management. Boise School District's Accounting Department is lead by Chief Financial Officer Sheila Kessel. "This is truly a district-wide effort and accomplishment," said Kessel.
In 2019, the District's commitment to serving as responsible stewards of taxpayer funds helped Boise School District become the first and only Idaho public entity (public bond issuer) to earn a Aaa bond rating from Moody's Investor Service. The Aaa rating is the top credit rating available for a government entity.
The Meritorious Budget Award serves as yet another reminder that Boise School District is dedicated to building trust in our community as we prepare students for success in college, career and in life.
