FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Statement from the Boise School District Regarding the Independent Investigation at
Valley View Elementary School

Boise, ID -- 04/09/2025 -- Last night, April 8, 2025, Boise School District leadership and Valley View Elementary School administrators met with Valley View families to share the results of an independent workplace investigation into reports of child abuse by a former special education paraprofessional. This meeting followed an initial community meeting held in January 2025, shortly after the District became aware of the reported incidents.

Superintendent Lisa Roberts addressed families directly, acknowledging the pain and trauma experienced by victims and their families, and reaffirmed the District’s apology to the entire Valley View community. The District remains committed to transparency, accountability, and taking meaningful steps to ensure student safety.

In the interest of open communication and in accordance with Idaho law, the District has released the following document:

The Executive Summary outlines:

  • Key findings from the independent investigation

  • Actions taken by the District to address the identified issues

  • Policy and procedure changes made after discussions with the Boise Police Department

  • Confirmation that the Boise Police Department identified one individual involved in multiple instances of misconduct involving more than one student at Valley View

Once again, we deeply regret what happened to the children at Valley View Elementary and the damage done to the trust our public places in us every day. We recognize that no words can undo the trauma experienced by students and families, but we hope that our actions—both in the immediate aftermath and through long-term reforms—demonstrate how seriously we take this violation to our students.

Our commitment to improving student safety, transparency, and openness is unwavering. Together, with our families and community, we will move forward and work toward restoring trust and ensuring every child feels safe, supported, and valued at school.
