Health Advisory Regarding U of I Jazz Festival

Sunday, March 1, 2020

Dear Boise School District Parents, Guardians and Staff:

Over the weekend, nineteen students and chaperones from Borah High School attended the University of Idaho Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival in Moscow, Idaho. According to event organizers, students from Jackson High School in Snohomish County, Washington, were participants at the event. On February 28, Everett Public Schools notified their community that a student from Jackson High School has been diagnosed with novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

Event organizers stress that the student in question did not attend the festival. In addition, festival organizers say there is no indication that any student at the festival had direct contact with the reportedly infected student and none of the students are exhibiting any signs of the illness.

Currently, no cases of novel coronavirus have been diagnosed in Idaho.

In the meantime, as you know, Boise School District sent a coronavirus information and resources memo to all parents/guardians on Thursday, February 27, 2020. We encourage you to review that memo for reliable information from credible sources such as Central District Health and the Centers for Disease Control, including how you can help prevent the spread of the virus:

  • Prevention starts with practicing good personal health habits: Wash your hands often with soap and water,
  • Stay home when you’re sick,
  • Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue,
  • Clean frequently touched surfaces and objects,
  • Getting plenty of rest, drinking fluids, eating healthy foods, and managing your stress can help you prevent getting COVID-19 and recover from it if you do,
  • The CDC does not recommend a face mask for healthy people to protect themselves from respiratory diseases, including COVID-19.

Sincerely,

Boise School District Administration
