Driver Education

Summer Driver Education Registration will begin the first part of April. There will be two sessions, held Monday through Friday, at Fairmont Junior High. Classes are in three hour blocks, 7-10 am, 10 am -1 pm, 1-4 pm, of which half of the time is in the classroom and half is in a car.

Session 1:  June 1 – June 29 Session 2: July 6 – August 3



The 2022-2023 Driver Education classes are ready for enrollment!
All 30 of the required classroom hours will be in-person, except at Timberline. The Timberline classroom will be a virtual classroom. In-car instruction will be provided with three students in the car and one instructor. Masks are optional for students and instructors.

**A Driver Permit is required BEFORE registering for a class. The cost of the Driver Education Permit is $26.50. This fee is paid directly to the Ada County Driver’s License Department at 400 N Benjamin Lane. Checks for the permit should be made payable to Ada County Sheriff. This fee is non-refundable. They will give an eye test, collect the fee and issue the receipt for the Driver Education permit. Students should bring the receipt to the first day of class.

ALL TEMS REQUIRED TO OBTAIN A PERMIT:

  • TO PROVE DATE OF BIRTH, EACH STUDENT MUST PRESENT: AN ORIGINAL CERTIFIED BIRTH CERTIFICATE AT THE TIME THE PERMIT IS PURCHASED.

  • PHOTO IDENTIFICATION (student activity card, military ID, or passport) 

  • SCHOOL VERIFICATION OF COMPLIANCE letter. This must be picked up from the administrative assistant at your child's school. The Ada County License Department will only accept a written verification on a school letterhead with the principal's signature or designee, and the school seal or stamp affixed. Home schooled students will require an affidavit from the DMV which must be signed by their parents.

  • SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS will be required for the issuance of a driver education permit.

  • When going to obtain your permit, make sure you have a legal parent with you as both parent and student have to sign for the permit.

  • Students are required to take and pass a vision test to receive a permit.
  • Tell the staff at the Ada County License Department to send the permit to Boise School District.

When the online registration form (including permit number) and payment of the district fee ($265) are submitted, you will be enrolled.
