School Enrollment & Attendance Area FAQ

  • School placement is based on the legal residence of the student’s parent or guardian. If a family moves to a new attendance area, the student is expected to transfer to the appropriate school unless an Open Enrollment request is approved.

  • City limits and mailing addresses do not always align with school district boundaries. Contact the Boundaries and Transportation Office to verify which district serves your address.

  • Students may register during regular school office hours. Registration for the upcoming school year typically opens two weeks before school starts, with kindergarten registration usually held in March. Contact your school for specific dates.

  • Kindergarten students must be 5, and first-grade students must be 6, on or before September 1. Some 5-year-olds who have completed an approved 450-hour kindergarten program may qualify for first grade.

    • Elementary: Kindergarten – Grade 6
    • Junior High: Grades 7 – 9
    • Senior High: Grades 10 – 12
  • Yes. Families may apply for enrollment in a school outside their assigned attendance area through the Open Enrollment process.
