Board of Trustees Accepts Oppenheimer Resignation; Announces 

Timeline and Process for Appointment

Boise, ID – (03/11/2024) – At their regularly scheduled March Board meeting, the Boise School District Board of Trustees formally accepted the resignation of Trustee Beth Oppenheimer, as well as established the timeline to fill the vacancy on the Board. Trustee Oppenheimer had stated her intention to resign in mid-February, following the announcement that she has accepted a new job in Washington, D.C. The process to fill the vacancy created by Trustee Oppenheimer’s resignation will follow an expedited process under Regulation 1131(R) - Filling Vacancies on the Board of Trustees.

Trustee Appointment Timeline

 

  • Tuesday, March 12, 2024Candidate nomination application process opens at 12:00 p.m.. Applications will be available on the Boise School District website or in the Clerk of the Board's Office at 8169 W. Victory Road, Boise, Idaho, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. All school district offices will be closed Monday, March 18 - Friday, March 22, 2024 in observance of Spring Break. 

 

  • Monday, March 25th, 2024Candidate nomination applications due. Candidate applications must be received by the Clerk of the Board’s office no later than 12:00 p.m. on Monday, March 25, 2024
  • Applications may be emailed ([email protected]) or delivered in person to the Boise School District Service Center, 8169 W. Victory Road, Boise, Idaho. The application form must be complete. 
  • Applications received will be posted on the Boise School District website
  • As a reminder, all school district offices will be closed Monday, March 18 - Friday, March 22, 2024 in observance of Spring Break.

 

  • Tuesday, March 26, 2024Special Board meeting at 5:00 p.m. in the Board Room at the District Services Center, 8169 W. Victory Road, Boise, Idaho to consider applicants and consider an immediate appointment.

 

  • April 8, 2024, 2024The new Trustee selected will be officially sworn in at the Regular Board Meeting held at 6:00 p.m. in the Board Room at the District Services Center, 8169 W. Victory Rd., Boise, Idaho.

 

During discussions at the March 11 Board meeting, Trustees agreed an expedited process was necessary to seat a new trustee prior to the Board’s discussion and adoption of the 2024 - 2025 School Year Budget and Strategic Plan in June. 

 

“Given the importance and complexity of the topics our Board will be required to act on in the next few weeks, it’s in the best interests of our students, families and community to have an individual in place as soon as possible,” said Board President Dave Wagers.

 

It was also noted that the seat held by the appointee will be up for election at the Board of Trustees regularly scheduled general election on September 3, 2024. If the appointee chooses to seek election to the Board, they will be required to file when the candidate filing period opens on June 24, 2024.

Qualifications of Trustees

To be eligible to serve as a Trustee an individual must be at least 18 years of age, an elector and resident of the Boise School District, and have no direct or indirect interest in District contracts. Before entering upon his/her duties, he/she shall take and subscribe an oath faithfully to perform the duties of his/her trust according to law; and no Trustee shall have any pecuniary interest, either directly or indirectly, in any contract with said District, or in any supplies furnished to or for said District, nor shall any Trustee be surety for the performance of any contract with the said Board or District, or the agent or partner of any contractor with said Board or District, and no action shall be maintained or recovery had against said Board or District upon any contract or obligation in which any Trustee is so interested, but the same shall be void.
