Program Description
The world languages department of the Boise School District provides the opportunity for students to study other languages and cultures. As core subjects in the Humanities area, students may take world language as Humanities or world language credit towards high school graduation. We encourage students to enroll in world languages study for 4 to 5 years between 8th and 12th grades. Many universities require two years of world language study as an entrance or graduation requirement. Study at the high school level may benefit students, as most universities will extend credit for levels of language below a student's placement in a university program. Language study can also positively impact students who join the workforce after graduation. Many companies will reward employees who can communicate in a world language. Junior and senior high school curricula are presented by content area and then by course. Grade levels in which the courses are offered are noted when applicable. Each subject includes a brief description, references to adopted materials, and other relevant information. Timelines are presented to assist the teacher in planning unit lessons that will be covered by End of Course tests. Please note that this is a work-in-progress, and changes will undoubtedly occur.
