Fairmont Junior High - Update

Fairmont Junior High School was constructed in 1964.  Fairmont is overcrowded and ranked as the second worst junior high school on two of the three major 2016 Facilities Audit categories (Educational Adequacy and Facilities Condition Index) and the worst junior high on the category of Utilization.

Fairmont is one of two junior high schools that doesn’t have adequate physical education space.  The current gym is outdated and has become an obstacle to properly delivering academic, athletic and art education. The cafeteria is too small for current and projected enrollment. These issues create scheduling challenges for classes and extracurricular events.

August 7, 2019 Update: Sletten Construction reports a Temporary Certificate of Occupancy has been issued for the Gym/Cafeteria. Prep and paving of three asphalt basketball courts and landscaping work on the Cole Road frontage is underway and is anticipated to be completed by August 19, 2019.
